MIY - Really Simple Shampoo/Conditioner

Back in June I wrote an "Ingredient Insight" post about Rhassoul clay, including how it can be used on the hair.  Well, here's a really simple recipe for a conditioning shampoo:

1 heaped tablespoon Rhassoul clay
1 tablespoon Orange Flower Water

That's it! I said it was simple.

Mix the clay and flower water together. The mix should have a 'dolloping' consistency - thick but not stiff.  Work the mix into wet hair, taking care to cover the hair from root to tip. Massage into the scalp as well.  Leave for several minutes (or longer, just don't let it dry out) then rinse out, and say hello to soft (really soft!), shiny hair.  If you have very textured or dry hair then you might want to use a moisturiser afterwards, but there's no need for a separate conditioner.  Usually if I don't use conditioner my hair is really frizzy and feels like straw, not to mention the tangling, but not with this recipe.  Simple, but very effective.

You can buy Rhassoul online at various places including here, and Orange Flower Water at the supermarket, or Asian food stores.

Have you tried Rhassoul for hair care?  Leave a comment about how you used it and what the results you got.

Ingredient Insight - Rhassoul Clay

Rhassoul clay is found deep under the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. It has very powerful absorption properties making it extremely effective at cleansing and detoxifying (removing pollutants and toxins), yet it is very gentle.  Unlike other clays Rhassoul is not as drying on the skin so it is a prefect choice for people with dry skin.

Rhassoul is also extremely rich in minerals such as silicon, magnesium and potassium, which aid detoxification and help the skin to absorb and retain moisture effectively.

It is also sometimes known as soap clay and can be used for washing in place of soap and shampoo. It is an effective skin and hair conditioner.  I've been using it lately in place of shampoo on my much-neglected hair which has become dry and brittle and I can already see a marked improvement.

Clinical studies that have been conducted on rhassoul, show that in general it:
- Reduces dryness and flaking;
- Improves skin clarity;
- Improves skin elasticity/firmness;
- Absorbs excess oil and helps to unclog pores;
- Improves skin smoothness by removing surface dead skin.

We use Rhassoul in our Conditioning Shampoo Bar and Hydrating Face Mask and I have one of each to give away. Just leave a comment, and one person will be chosen at random to receive this pair of goodies.  The giveaway closes at midnight on Monday 11th June.

THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED.
